WE BUILT THE
TENNIS database
WE WANTED TO READ.
This is the part of Lyphox nobody else has. Not a scraped table and a chart — a full chain that goes from raw sources to a normalised database, to a rating per surface, to a model that explains itself. ATP and WTA, kept strictly separate, because treating them as one dataset is how people get things wrong.
THE NUMBERS,
PLAINLY.
Everything below is generated by the pipeline, not typed in by hand. When the sources update, these change.
SOURCES IN,
ANSWERS OUT.
THE DATA
Raw sources are collected, normalised and de-duplicated into one database. Player identity is resolved properly — the same person spelled four different ways across four sources is one person here, which sounds trivial and is the single biggest cause of bad tennis stats online.
THE MODEL
A custom Elo computed match by match, plus one rating per surface. On top of it, a model that gives a win probability, a distribution of set scores, and — the part that matters — the contribution of each factor, so you can see why it thinks what it thinks. Tested by walking forward through time, never by looking at the future.
THE COACHING LAYER
On the charted matches, you get patterns rather than totals: where a player serves under pressure, which wing collapses on the run, how rally length changes the picture. That's the layer that turns numbers into something a coach or a curious fan can actually use.
RESEARCH.
NOT TIPS.
This is analysis published as analysis. Lyphox does not sell predictions, does not publish betting tips, does not compare bookmaker odds, does not run affiliate links to gambling operators and does not take money from them.
That isn't a legal disclaimer bolted on at the end — it's a design decision. Paid sports tipping is one of the most heavily regulated and most scam-infested corners of the internet, and it is the fastest way for a young media brand to destroy its credibility. A probability is a description of uncertainty, not a recommendation to do anything with your money.
WHAT YOU'LL NEVER FIND HERE
- NO Odds, bookmakers, or affiliate links to gambling
- NO Paid predictions, subscriptions or a "VIP" channel
- NO A model result presented as a certainty
- NO A backtest that quietly used information from the future
THE NUMBERS
BECOME STORIES.
The lab feeds the magazine. A surface Elo that disagrees with the official ranking, a player whose serve pattern changed after an injury, a Grand Slam draw run ten thousand times — these become articles nobody else can write, because nobody else has the pipeline. That's the whole point of building it.
